The Group of Eight (G8, formerly the G6, Group of Six then the G7) is a forum created by France in 1975 for originally seven major economies; Canada, France, Italy, Germany, Japan, United Kingdom and The United States. It turned, in 1997, into the G8 when Russia was added to the group.
